Quick trip to the coast

The recipe for getting out of town?  Answer:  A few days off, long overdue “girl time”, and a good forecast.

For the past few weeks, I’ve had an itch to “play boat” . . . this would put most people into shock, hearing this statement, but it‘s true!  So, the closest thing to play boating in this area, around this time . . . The beautiful Oregon Coast.

This trip was pretty last minute.  It went something like this, “Okay, I’ll be ready in an hour.”  So, I packed the car, stopped at the Kayak Shed to pick up a play boat - the All Star (which kicks ass BTW) - picked up Lana, and set off for a quick kayak surf session.

We got to Newport Beach around 4:30 p.m. and checked the surf.  “Looks good enough for me”, I said.  Our surf sessions lasted approximately 2 - 2 ½ hours.  Once 6:30 p.m. rolled around, we were tired, hungry and satisfied.

After a great Thai meal, we crashed for the evening, awaiting our ambitious wake-up time of 4:00 a.m. the next morning.  We figured we’d get a few surf sessions in before our departing time, around 1:00 p.m.  My watch alarm went off at 3:45 a.m., I clicked it off.  Finally, 6:00 a.m. rolled around and we got our arses out of bed.  We were at the beach and gearing up around 7:30 a.m.  I guess that’s not too bad, being that it was kind of a ‘mini-vacation’.

Our second day of surf took place at Agate Beach.  The view up and down the beach are breath-taking, and the surf is amazing.  We hit two 2-hour surf sessions, leaving completely exhausted, but feeling incredible - both Lana and I were leaving this quick surf trip having learned a few more things!

I am so impressed with the Jackson All Star.  This boat has stability, yet easily initiates moves.  I cannot wait to try the new line, which comes out soon.  Woohoo . . . You WILL see me in a playboat much more now!  Cannot wait to get back to the Coast and continue working on my ‘cool moves’!
